Hamzat Promises Decentralised Govt. Services, Stronger Economic Devt in Lagos

Bennett Oghifo, Lagos State Deputy Governor and APC Governorship Candidate Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has pledged to create a more interconnected Lagos by decentralising government services and leveraging each of the state's five divisions. During an interview in Ikorodu, Hamzat emphasized the importance of harnessing the unique economic strengths of each division, including Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe (IBILE), in order to drive the state's growth.

He promised to establish mini-secretariats in non-central locations such as Ikorodu, Badagry, and Epe, so that 80% of needed services could be provided locally, rather than requiring residents to travel to Alausa. Furthermore, Hamzat stressed the need for strategic government presence in various divisions to bring governance closer to the people and enhance access to public services, efficient transportation, and essential infrastructure.

The APC candidate identified Ikorodu's potential in agriculture, food processing, and transportation, and promised to develop infrastructure around emerging institutions and economic activities in other divisions as well. He also highlighted the importance of reorganising local government administration to improve accountability, eliminate leakages, and address issues like ghost workers, while ensuring that the development of the state remains inclusive, with each division's specific needs and opportunities reflected in government planning.
