Kissi Agyebeng declares Accra Academy Ghana’s foremost all-round school

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has proclaimed Accra Academy as Ghana's premier all-encompassing educational institution, recognizing the remarkable accomplishments of its alumni across diverse sectors of national significance. During the school's notable participation in the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Grand Finale, Mr Agyebeng emphasized that a school's true essence is revealed through the caliber and influence of its graduates.

He stated, "To gauge the worth of a school, examine its pupils and how they shape industries. That defines the quality of that institution."

Mr Agyebeng highlighted Accra Academy's impressive alumni roster, including distinguished figures in governance, law, business, entertainment, sports, and science. He underscored the school's rich scientific legacy, citing the pioneering contributions of the J.F.O.L. Mustapha family and other distinguished Old Students, two of whom became Ghana's earliest neurosurgeons.

He acknowledged that other institutions had since eclipsed Accra Academy in science and mathematics but vowed to reclaim their position. "We began it, and now we are poised to retake our place," he declared.

Additionally, Mr Agyebeng lauded Accra Academy's success in sports, noting that the school had groomed two captains of Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars. "No school can boast of two Black Stars captains," he affirmed. This comment followed Accra Academy's historic qualifying for the 2026 NSMQ Grand Finale, where they battled against two-time champions PRESEC Legon and St Augustine's College.

Despite finishing as runners-up, Mr Agyebeng praised the team's performance, asserting that their victory over seasoned competitors signaled their growing capability. "The seasoned players were visibly uneasy; they panicked," he observed.

The Special Prosecutor reassured the NSMQ contestants that their loss should not deter them, emphasizing that experience was the primary advantage their opponents held. "You didn't lose due to their superior skills; it was simply experience," he explained. He encouraged the team to leverage the insights gained from the 2026 competition to bolster their efforts in the upcoming NSMQ season. "You've gained experience, and now it's time to demonstrate what Accra Academy is truly capable of," he urged.

In an effort to fortify the team's preparation for future challenges, Mr Agyebeng and other alumni presented laptops and other resources to the NSMQ contestants, aiming to enhance their academic pursuits and performance in subsequent competitions. He emphasized that this gesture marked the beginning of a renewed commitment from the school's Old Boys to elevate Accra Academy's standing in science and mathematics.

"We are a business school, an art school, but we can also lead in science," he proclaimed. This initiative signifies a broader strategy by Accra Academy's Old Boys to reassert the institution's dominance in academic competitions, particularly in the 2027 NSMQ Grand Finale.
