Anwar tekankan keselamatan Selat Hormuz dalam pertemuan sulung bersama presiden Iran

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian convened their first meeting in New Delhi, India. Anwar Ibrahim expressed the need for safe maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing compliance with international laws. He also voiced Malaysia's concerns over the ongoing conflict and increasing tension in the Western Asia region, urging all parties to return to the negotiating table and diplomacy.

The two leaders met during the BRICS Summit, following multiple phone conversations since Pezeshkian assumed the presidency in July 2024. The Strait of Hormuz has been a concern for Malaysia since the beginning of the year, following disruptions to shipping routes. Anwar Ibrahim requested assistance from Tehran for a Malaysian ship affected by the disruption, leading to Iran's subsequent permission for the ship to pass through the strait.

Both leaders discussed efforts to expand trade and investment relations in sectors such as energy, agriculture, palm oil, food safety, and halal industries. They also explored broader cooperation in technology and higher education, strengthening their long-standing diplomatic ties.
