Anwar tekankan keselamatan Selat Hormuz dalam pertemuan sulung bersama presiden Iran

Perdana Menteri Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim and Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian held their inaugural meeting in New Delhi, India. Anwar Ibrahim urged the safe passage of maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that its freedom and security must be upheld in line with international laws. He also expressed Malaysia's concerns over ongoing conflicts and escalating tensions in the Western Asia region, urging all parties to return to negotiation tables and diplomacy.

Both leaders met during the BRICS Summit, following several telephone conversations since Pezeshkian assumed the presidency in July 2024. The Strait of Hormuz has been a concern for Malaysia since early this year due to disruptions in shipping routes. Anwar Ibrahim appealed for Tehran's assistance for a Malaysian vessel affected by the disruptions, which led to Iran temporarily permitting the passage of the affected ship through the Strait.

During the meeting, Anwar and Pezeshkian also discussed efforts to expand trade and investment relations in sectors such as energy, agriculture, palm oil, food security, and halal industries. The two leaders also explored broader cooperation in technology and higher education, alongside strengthening the longstanding diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Iran.
