Haze can't stop the party: Sabah moves Malaysia Day celebration to SICC

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 11 — Due to the haze affecting Sabah and the nation, the Sabah-level Malaysia Day celebration scheduled for Sept 16 will be relocated to the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), according to State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin. The decision was unanimously agreed upon by the State Cabinet.

The SICC, a premier business and trade platform, will host the celebration, which is set to begin at 8pm and coincide with the national-level event in Kuching, Sarawak. A range of engaging activities, including dance performances, a Malaysia Madani presentation montage, and entertainment by local artists, are planned to liven up the occasion.

Datuk Jafry visited Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu to secure his permission to attend the Sabah-level Malaysia Day celebration. Meanwhile, the celebration organized by the State Archives, which features an exhibition on the history of Malaysia Day, will conclude this Friday. Jafry encourages the public, especially Kota Kinabalu residents and nearby areas, to attend and contribute to the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16.
