MPSC Exam Row: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Promises Major Overhaul, SIT Probes Into Recruitment Irregularities

Mumbai: Following the postponement of the Maharashtra Group-C Services Combined Preliminary Examination 2026, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with students' representatives in Mumbai on Thursday. Fadnavis pledged to tackle concerns regarding transparency, examination reforms, and recruitment irregularities. The state government plans to create a new committee led by Senior bureaucrat V. Radha to propose reforms for the MPSC examination system.

The committee will gather input from students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders across the state. A thorough investigation into the paper leak incident in the Drug Inspector examination is already underway, and the government is committed to uncovering the truth. An SIT (Special Investigation Team) will probe other student complaints, and the government intends to review all exams conducted under former MPSC officials Lendwe, Marathe, and Nakhate.

Examinations facing complaints will have their answer sheets made accessible under the Right to Information Act. The preliminary Crime Branch investigation report will be made public once evidence against the MPSC chairman or secretary is collected. Fadnavis also hinted at an independent inquiry and possible action against guilty individuals.

The government will examine the Rajurkar Committee's recommendations and implement them where deemed suitable. Other competitive recruitment processes, such as police recruitment, SARTHI, BARTI, and MAHAJYOTI, will also be reviewed and addressed. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) examinations will undergo scrutiny, with consequences for those responsible for irregularities.

Fadnavis assured students that corrective actions would commence within the next eight days, and a dedicated grievance redressal cell will be established within the MPSC, potentially overseen by a retired judge.
