While acknowledging the humorous intent behind the AI-generated meme, Mbappe, 27, suggests that it trivializes serious historical issues. The meme is sometimes used by fans on social media to highlight Mbappe's dominance in matches, or to symbolize his influence at various clubs.

In an interview with France Football, Mbappe explained that there is a "funny side" to the meme, as some people find it lighthearted. However, he also pointed out a "less funny" aspect, noting the association with individuals who have caused significant suffering throughout history. Comparing himself to dictators who have murdered and miserable millions, Mbappe emphasized that he has never engaged in such actions.

Despite understanding that the meme is meant to be playful and not taken too seriously, Mbappe believes it inadvertently exposes a deficiency in some people's political and human awareness. He also referenced the "Mobut" nickname given to him by France teammate Ousmane Dembele during the 2026 World Cup. The nickname is derived from Mobutu Sese Seko, the dictator who ruled the Democratic Republic of Congo, formerly Zaire, for three decades.

Mbappe clarified that Ousmane Dembele merely found the nickname amusing, drawing a distinction between the lighthearted reference and the meme's more serious undertones.
