Speaking to France Football, Mbappe clarified that some find the meme good-natured, but others perceive it as downplaying the devastating impact of such leaders. He commented, "Being compared to people who murder others, or who have made millions upon millions of people miserable... I don't think I've done that in my life." The player also referenced the "Mobut" nickname given to him by teammate Ousmane Dembele during the 2026 World Cup, referencing Mobutu Sese Seko, the dictator who ruled the Democratic Republic of Congo for three decades.

Mbappe noted that Ousmane Dembele simply took the name from social media for fun, but highlighted the broader lack of awareness among fans.
