IKEA made a mod for Skyrim [video]

Ikea, the Swedish furniture and home goods retailer, has created a peculiar Skyrim mod titled "Kallax Storageborn." In this mod, a sentient shelf named Kallax Storageborn, voiced by actor Matt Berry, becomes a companion for players. This isn't just a simple addition of a companion, but rather a complete new questline centered around the character.

The mod features a quest where players must venture into an abandoned Dwemer emporium to uncover the origins of a mysterious master. Along the way, players can assemble Kallax Storageborn, a uniquely capable companion with an unfathomable storage capacity. Players can summon Kallax Storageborn at any time using a newly-added Thu'um, or shout, even when he isn't their active companion.

The ultimate goal of the quest is to tidy up clutter throughout the realm of Nords and Dragonborn. The mod also includes new loot, such as the Meatball Helmet and the Allenblade. The Kallax, a reference to Ikea's actual series of shelves, is included in the mod.

While this mod is undoubtedly a marketing stunt, it's hard not to be drawn in by its whimsical nature. It's amusing enough to be charming, and the mod creators have put in a surprising amount of effort. Matt Berry's voice work is more extensive than one might expect, and the quest itself is actual gameplay, not just a gimmick.
