Karachi Faces Another Flour Price Hike

Karachi is grappling with another increase in flour prices, following a rise in wheat prices, according to ARY News. Flour mills have hiked the rates of both fine flour and No. 2.5 flour. Fine flour's price per kilogram has risen by Rs15, reaching Rs160 in retail markets. No. 2.5 flour, meanwhile, has seen a Rs15 increase, now costing Rs145 per kilogram in shops. Retailers are selling fine flour for up to Rs175 per kilogram.

Chakki flour prices have also climbed by Rs10 per kilogram, now priced at up to Rs180 per kilogram in the market. Meanwhile, wheat has become Rs15 per kilogram more expensive, bringing its price to Rs130 per kilogram. Flour mills have acknowledged their inability to purchase costly wheat and maintain sales at the government-set price.

Consequently, they have called for the government to promptly import 2 million tonnes of wheat. The price surge is anticipated to further strain consumers who are already facing escalating food costs.
