Trump says Iran war will end ‘immediately’ after midterm elections

US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the war with Iran would conclude "immediately" following the US midterm elections on November 3. During a trip to Dallas, Texas for the Republican midterm convention, Trump stated that energy prices would also begin to decline after the election. He attributed the continuation of the conflict to Iran's desire to maintain high fuel prices leading up to the election.

The President, who initially expected the war to last only a few weeks, now believes it will end quickly. Iran's control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital conduit for global fuel supplies, has been a key factor in the prolonged conflict. Trump suggested that Iran's leaders are "desperate" to impact the election results. Although he ruled out a negotiated end to the war, he did not rule out the possibility of future negotiations.

Rising oil prices, reaching above $100 a barrel for the first time in six weeks, have contributed to increased energy costs, a significant economic concern for voters ahead of the midterms. Trump campaigned on lowering costs and has blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden, for inflation. The President's economy and Iran war handling have negatively affected his approval ratings, which are currently around 33%.

Trump did not criticize the recent UK sanctions on businesses and settlers connected to Israeli settlements, instead expressing interest in understanding the reasoning behind the measures. The US maintains a policy of avoiding trade measures that could destabilize the West Bank.
