Mahama fully backs Haruna Iddrisu to tackle education sector challenges – Spokesperson

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has full backing from President John Mahama, according to the Education Minister's spokesperson, Hashmin Mohammed. The spokesperson dismissed claims by former Manhyia North MP Collins Owusu Amankwah that the President lacks support for Iddrisu, calling them "factually wrong, politically convenient and completely unsupported by the evidence."

Mohammed further explained that the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), which has faced challenges, is being improved through institutional reforms rather than being abandoned. He highlighted the decentralisation of placement resolution centres as an effort to bring support closer to parents and students, making it easier to resolve placement-related issues.

The spokesperson also emphasized that the Education Ministry inherited several challenges but has chosen to address them through reforms rather than blaming previous administrations. He listed measures such as decentralisation of placement resolution centres as steps taken to make the placement process more accessible.

Mohammed further stated that the President did not appoint Iddrisu to fail but to fix problems, and Mahama is supporting Iddrisu in doing so. This support is evident in government's policies, resource allocation, and interventions aimed at transforming the education sector.

He urged political actors to base discussions on facts and constructive proposals rather than partisan considerations. Mohammed stressed that the CSSPS is being improved, not abandoned, and that the Education Minister is being supported, not isolated. He concluded by reiterating that President Mahama has given Iddrisu the mandate, political backing, and institutional support required to address the challenges facing the education sector.
