Mahama has not abandoned Haruna Iddrisu, he is backing him to fix education challenges – Spokesperson

The spokesperson for Ghana’s Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has firmly denied claims that President John Mahama has abandoned the Minister in dealing with the education sector's challenges. Hashmin Mohammed stated that such assertions were "factually wrong, politically convenient, and completely unsupported by the evidence".

He emphasized that the President's support for Mr Iddrisu is evident in government policies, resource allocation, and interventions aimed at transforming the education sector. The Ministry of Education inherited a system in dire need of reforms, which Mr Iddrisu has chosen to confront directly, rather than continuing to blame previous administrations.

The spokesperson highlighted the CSSPS system as one of the areas undergoing significant improvements, with interventions such as decentralising placement resolution centres to bring assistance closer to parents and students. He also noted that the government is working to address infrastructure deficits, expand school capacity, and improve access to teaching and learning materials, aiming to ensure all Ghanaian children have access to quality secondary education.

The spokesperson urged political actors to base their discussions on facts rather than political convenience, stressing that the Mahama administration has chosen to confront the education sector's challenges through reform, investment, and institutional strengthening.
