15-inch MacBook Air M5 plunges to $1,349 ahead of Apple Event

Huawei and Xiaomi unveiled their latest flagship foldable smartphones on September 7, just days before Apple is expected to launch its highly anticipated iPhone Ultra foldable device. The new Huawei Mate XT2 series is the third iteration of its popular tri-fold phone, featuring a powerful Kirin 9050 Pro chipset and LogicFolding architecture, which enables the smartphone to fold twice into a tablet-sized screen.

This advanced computing technology, called LogicFolding, is part of Huawei's 'Tau Scaling Law' principle, aimed at overcoming US-imposed restrictions on accessing advanced technology. The device also boasts an improved hinge, enhanced water resistance, and a privacy screen to prevent nearby viewers from seeing the display.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi introduced its Xiaomi 18 Fold, which utilizes a 'medium-fold solution.' This passport-sized device supports three apps side by side when opened and weighs just 219 grams. It runs on Xiaomi's in-house XRing O3 AI processor, which Xiaomi claims outperforms Apple's A19 Pro in responsiveness. Powered by DRAM memory chips supplied by Chinese memory chipmaker CXMT, the Xiaomi 18 Fold is priced between 10,999 yuan ($1,540) to 14,999 yuan ($2,100).

Foldable technology has become a significant trend in China, with Huawei leading the market at 22.6% in the second quarter, followed by Apple at 18.1% and Xiaomi at 12.4%. Samsung, the world's biggest foldable smartphone vendor, had previously released a tri-fold device in December but later discontinued sales after just three months.
