Juru-Sungai Dua elevated highway project on track for 2030 completion

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow affirmed Penang's commitment to completing the Juru-Sungai Dua elevated highway project on schedule for 2030. Package 1 of the construction, focused on the traffic dispersal route from the Juru toll plaza to Sungai Dua toll plaza, has reached 40.79 percent completion and is expected to be finished by October next year. Packages 2 to 5 are currently undergoing evaluation and tender processes, with the expectation that work will commence early next year.

The upcoming traffic-separation concept of the project, designed to ease congestion and improve traffic flow along the Juru-Sungai Dua corridor, is anticipated to benefit approximately 200,000 daily road users. The RM3 billion project has been receiving close monitoring from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with regular meetings to address challenges and ensure timely completion.

Land acquisition and utility relocation are being conducted simultaneously to prevent delays, with the process currently in Section 8 and expected to be presented to the relevant authority by September 17. Only seven food stalls are expected to be affected by the land acquisition, with no large-scale resettlement required. The project has garnered significant anticipation from Penang residents and users of the North-South Expressway due to its potential impact in alleviating congestion on one of the busiest expressway corridors.
