At least 5 killed in Amazon Prime plane crash in Miami

An Amazon Air cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Monday, resulting in five fatalities and five serious injuries. The Boeing 767-300 aircraft departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, before overshot the runway while attempting to land. The crash occurred at around 14:00 local time (19:00 GMT).

Amazon has stated that they are working closely with local authorities to investigate the incident. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced that all flights were halted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in response to the crash. Miami Fire Chief Raied Jadallah reported that three injured individuals are in critical condition, while the other two are also injured and taken to the hospital.

Several individuals were trapped under vehicles and needed to be extricated by rescue crews. The cause of the crash remains unknown and will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Over 200 firefighters responded to the scene, which involved an airplane that caught fire and had a fuel leak. Amazon issued a statement expressing their condolences to the victims and their families.

The crash unfolded during the Labor Day weekend, a period of high travel activity. Weather conditions, including light thunderstorms and gusting winds, were reported at the time of the incident.
