Nestled in the Hyogo prefecture of western Japan, Koshien Hall at Mukogawa Women's University is a revered architectural landmark that has captivated generations. Formerly known as the Koshien Hotel, this timeless gem was crafted by renowned architect Arata Endo, a protégé of the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright. Completed in 1930, the building initially functioned as a hotel for esteemed guests, including members of the Imperial Family and influential individuals from politics and industry.

Legend has it that even baseball legend Babe Ruth stayed at the hotel during a historic U.S.-Japan exhibition tour.

World War II brought a shift in the hall's purpose as it was commandeered for use as a naval hospital. Post-war, the structure was repurposed for officers' quarters of the Allied occupation forces. In 1965, the national government transferred the property to Mukogawa Women's University, integrating it into the campus. The Western-style building is celebrated for its original, dynamic design, seamlessly blending Japanese elements such as green-glazed roof tiles and reliefs of the uchide no kozuchi, a mystical mallet from Japanese folklore.

Today, Koshien Hall stands as a prime example of Hanshinkan Modernism, an architectural style prevalent in the Osaka-Kobe region. Its lobby features shell-shaped lighting fixtures, creating a serene yet sophisticated ambiance. The west hall on the first floor has historically hosted formal dances and continues to evoke the elegance of the era.
