Oasis reunion tour documentary rocks Venice Film Festival

Venice, Italy (AP) -- The Gallagher brothers graced the sleepy Venice Film Festival with a lively energy and rock star presence on Saturday, as their documentary about the reunion tour premiered. Rather than engage in news conferences, they simply waved at photographers on the Lido docks. The documentary, "Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger," is both a concert film and an exploration of the complex relationship between Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The brothers' feud led to Oasis's disbandment in 2009 following a backstage altercation in Paris. Noel once described Liam as "the angriest man you'll ever meet," while Liam said Liam "did me out, mate, he threw me under the bus, and I won't forget that. He split the band up and it meant the world to me." Formed in Manchester, England in 1991, Oasis became one of Britain's most popular acts of the 1990s, with hit albums like "Definitely Maybe" and "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?"

The film delves into the band's phenomenon and the personalities behind their hits, including "Wonderwall" and "Live Forever." It features never-before-seen rehearsals and their first joint interview in 25 years. In 2025, the brothers returned to the stage with a reunion tour, kicking off in Cardiff to an ecstatic, all-ages crowd of over 60,000.

The documentary's Steven Knight aimed to explore why the music endures, not just with fans from the 90s but with future generations, leading to high demand for reunion tour tickets. Filmmakers Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace spoke to the brothers before and during rehearsals to capture the brothers' evolving relationship. The filmmakers set out to make the cameras and their presence invisible during rehearsals and to make the audience feel part of the concert experience.

The documentary, like the reunion and tour, has gained significant attention. After the festival, it will be released in theaters and on Disney's IMAX format on September 11, with an eventual streaming release on Disney+.
