India backs UN world map resolution, draws firm line on Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh

India has endorsed a United Nations resolution advocating for an equal-area world map projection, emphasizing that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh must be depicted accurately, in line with India's official map. This stance was expressed by a Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, following India's vote in favor of the resolution on September 4.

The resolution, sponsored by Togo, garnered widespread support with 164 votes in favor, while Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Serbia, and Ukraine abstained, and the United States cast a negative vote. Jaiswal clarified that the resolution does not endorse any specific map or projection, nor does it address political cartography or international boundaries.

He reiterated that India's territorial integrity, including Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, remains non-negotiable and uncompromisable.
