India backs UN world map resolution, draws firm line on Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh

India has endorsed a UN resolution aimed at revising the world map to achieve a more equitable representation of its regions, particularly Africa. However, the Indian government has drawn a clear line on Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, asserting that any depiction of these Union Territories in the proposed map must align with India's official map.

This stance was communicated by India's Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday, following the country's vote in favor of the resolution on September 4. The resolution, sponsored by Togo, received 164 votes in favor, with several countries abstaining and one vote against from the United States. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, emphasized that the resolution does not endorse any specific map or projection and does not address political cartography, including international boundaries, disputed territories, or place names.

India's position on its sovereignty and territorial integrity, including the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, remains firm and non-negotiable.
