Distressed after watching Nepal videos, UP boy gives his piggy bank for flood relief

On Thursday, Alfaz Sheikh, an eight-year-old student from Betiya village, presented a small earthen piggy bank, or gulak, to the district magistrate of Bahraich. Over the previous year, Alfaz had diligently saved coins and cash, amassing an estimated Rs 2,000. He expressed his desire for the gulak to be sent to Nepal to aid those affected by recent flash floods.

The district administration, responsible for handling the boy's gesture, sought to return the piggy bank to Alfaz, instead of accepting it alongside the bodies of unidentified flood victims, which had been returned to Nepali authorities following a postmortem and DNA sample collection. The boy’s grandfather, Qasim Ali, informed the magistrate that Alfaz had approached his grandfather about contributing to the relief effort after watching distressing videos of people in Nepal suffering.

The district magistrate subsequently instructed that the gulak be sent to the Nepal Embassy, ensuring it arrives intact, along with other relief items.
