Nepal flood survivor’s family in China relieved after days of anxious waiting

After enduring a grueling 10-day ordeal, Lu Haitao found solace as his family in China received the news of his rescue from a tunnel in Nepal. The floods, which claimed over 1,300 lives, had trapped the Chinese man in a 225-meter hydropower tunnel. Rescuers managed to extricate him via helicopter on Saturday, placing him in a stable condition at a local hospital.

Lu's sister, Lu Hairong, was initially skeptical of the rescue news but was convinced upon seeing a picture of her brother in the media. Lu Hairong, a 49-year-old carpenter from Henan province, had been working in Nepal alongside a fellow villager since February. Her cousin, Lu Haiqing, recounted her emotional journey of worry and hope, highlighting the crucial role of persistence in finally receiving confirmation of her brother's survival.
