CJP demands accountability over South Delhi hostel collapse; Dipke questions PM

On September 6, 2026, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) demanded accountability and a safety audit for all paying guest (PG) hostels in Delhi following a five-story hostel collapse in the city's Satya Niketan area. The structure's collapse left five students dead and several others trapped. CJP founder and convenor Abhijeet Dipke criticized the government's focus on political establishments over educational infrastructure, stating that students were being forced to live and study in unsafe conditions while political setups received attention and resources.

Dipke questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's priorities, noting that Modi visited Delhi University the day before the collapse and used the term "dimagi naxal" in his political speech, yet showed little concern for the hostel's condition. He asked when students would be made to endure unsafe infrastructure and demanded safe classrooms, hostels, and basic dignity for students.

Dipke emphasized that Adivasi students in tribal regions lacked care and support, while students in the national capital were not safe. The CJP team, led by Deepak Baliyan and Balakrishna Shukla, joined rescue efforts at the collapsed hostel, named Hostel Daze. The volunteers stated that residents began rescue efforts with bare hands before emergency services arrived.

The building housed around 15 rooms, with two to three students per room, and construction or repair work was ongoing in the basement. Residents expressed concerns about the structural safety of other buildings in the locality, where several residential properties had been converted into student PG accommodations. Dipke also pointed out the contrast between Union Minister Amit Shah's visit to Goa and the lack of attention to student safety.

He urged the government to prioritize safe schools, functional hostels, and quality educational infrastructure over grandiose political establishments.
