Weigman throws for 305 yards and leads No. 23 Houston to a 33-20 win over Oregon State

Conner Weigman delivered a stellar performance, throwing for 305 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for a score as No. 23 Houston defeated Oregon State 33-20 in their season opener on Saturday. Re’Shaun Sanford II and Mekhi Hughes contributed with rushing scores, propelling Houston to a commanding 33-20 victory. Weigman completed 20 of 30 passes and threw a crucial 31-yard scoring pass to Amare Thomas in the first quarter, extending Houston's lead.

SanSanford scored via a 56-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter, widening the gap to 16-7. Mekhi Hughes sealed the score with a 1-yard touchdown run just over six minutes into the third quarter, bolstering Houston's lead to 26-7. Despite trailing 26-7, Oregon State managed to close the gap to six points, with Jesse Legree scoring on a 7-yard touchdown catch from Braden Atkinson with just 44 seconds left in the third quarter and AJ Newberry adding a 4-yard touchdown run with nine minutes remaining.

Nonetheless, Weigman’s decisive touchdown run sealed Houston's win. The Beavers struggled on third and fourth downs, going 6 of 20 in those situations, while Houston outgained Oregon State 533 yards to 402.
