Jaylon Hawkins’ 100-yard kickoff return highlights San Diego State’s 53-20 rout of Portland State

San Diego State University handed Portland State a decisive 53-20 defeat on Saturday night, with standout performances from Lucky Sutton and Jaylon Hawkins. Sutton rushed for three touchdowns, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities, while Hawkins added to the victory with a remarkable 100-yard kickoff return. This marked the first such return for an Aztec since Jordan Byrd's effort against San Jose State on November 12, 2022.

The Aztecs' special teams unit also contributed, blocking two punts. Lucky Sutton, with 18 carries for 58 yards, became the first Aztec to register three rushing touchdowns in a single game since Juwan Washington achieved the feat against Sacramento State on September 8, 2018. Portland State's quarterback, Gabe Downing, completed 31 of 52 passes for 280 yards and a touchdown, while Terence Loville added 10 catches for 119 yards and a score.

Portland State will return home to face North Dakota in their next game, while San Diego State will head to UCLA for their upcoming matchup.
