The iPhone Ultra will be the thinnest iPhone ever — here’s how it will stack up to other foldables

Apple's upcoming iPhone Ultra is expected to be the thinnest iPhone ever, with rumors suggesting it will measure between 4.5mm and 4.8mm when unfolded. This would surpass the iPhone Air's 5.64mm thickness and make it thinner than traditional flagships like the iPhone 17. Even more impressive is the phone's folded state, which is predicted to be around 9mm to 9.5mm thick, only slightly thicker than the current iPhone Pro models.

While the iPhone Ultra's thinness will be a major selling point, it still falls short of the thinnest foldable currently on the market - Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which boasts a 4.1mm unfolded profile. The Honor Magic V6 and Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold also offer impressive thinness, with 4.0mm and 4.8mm profiles respectively.

In terms of weight, the iPhone Ultra is expected to sit between 8.1 and 8.5 ounces (230 to 241 grams). This places it in the middle of the pack when compared to other foldables, with Samsung's standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 being lighter at 201 grams and the Honor Magic V6 at 219 grams. However, even the heaviest foldable on this list, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, is lighter than many traditional smartphones.

Despite not being the thinnest foldable, Apple's engineering behind the iPhone Ultra's design will still be a significant milestone. If the device can deliver a crease-less inner display, MagSafe connectivity, and robust performance from an A20 Pro chip, it could set a new gold standard for the foldable market. However, the steep price range of $2,000 to $2,500 could make the Ultra inaccessible for many potential buyers.
