Shift school to better building, Minister instructs Social Welfare Department

Government officials have instructed the Social Welfare Department to relocate Morarji Desai Residential School to a more suitable building, following multiple complaints about the inadequate conditions at the current rented premises. The school, which caters to 172 students, including 80 girls, has been operating in a private godown for four consecutive years, despite the ongoing construction of its own facility.

The existing space is utilized for both daytime classes and nighttime residential purposes, with students lacking adequate sleeping arrangements and bathroom facilities. Excise Minister K.M. Shivalinge Gowda, who oversees the Hassan district, has taken notice of the situation and directed the Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, Dood Peer, to expedite the transfer to a better building.

Peer has assured the Minister that a suitable location will be identified within a week, and construction is expected to be completed within three to four months, allowing the students to move into a new building by the next academic year.
