Mumbai Dahi Handi 2026: 32 Govindas Injured, 28 Discharged; 1 Dies During Celebrations

Mumbai witnessed Dahi Handi celebrations with excitement this Saturday, yet at least 32 young Govindas suffered injuries while participating in the festivities, according to the latest report by IANS. Of those injured, 28 were discharged after receiving medical treatment; four remained under treatment, and regrettably, one teenage boy lost his life during the celebrations.

The injured Govindas were taken to hospitals across the city, including both government and those managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), for necessary treatment. However, updates on the recovery of these injured participants are still pending.

Across Mumbai, the atmosphere was filled with Dahi Handi festivities, as crowds gathered to watch and cheer the Govinda teams attempting to break earthen pots suspended high above the ground. The event, which recreates an episode from Lord Krishna's childhood, saw Govinda teams forming human pyramids to reach and break the pots.

Tragically, the festivities took a somber turn in Malvani, an area in Mumbai. A seven-year-old boy, Rudra Kadam, lost his life after a brick column collapsed on him during a local Dahi Handi celebration. The incident occurred at around 3.01 pm on Chikuwadi, Malvani, along Marve Road. Rudra was rushed to Malvani General Hospital, where doctors sadly declared him dead.
