7-year-old boy dies in Mumbai after brick column collapses during Dahi Handi celebration

On Saturday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred in Mumbai's Malad district during a Dahi Handi celebration. A seven-year-old boy lost his life when a brick column supporting a ground-floor structure collapsed on him. The incident took place at the Ekta Welfare Society, Room No. 23, Chikuwadi, Marve Road, Malad (West). The children were celebrating Dahi Handi on their own, with the rope holding the Dahi Handi tied between a tree and the brick column.

The unfortunate event unfolded as the children were attempting to break the handi, and the brick column ultimately collapsed onto the young boy. He suffered a severe head injury and was promptly taken to Malvani General Hospital, where he was later declared dead. This incident is not isolated, as another Dahi Handi-related tragedy occurred in Pune, where a woman named Salma Salauddin Pathan was crushed to death under an iron frame supporting a stack of loudspeakers.

The woman died due to a serious head injury after the temporary structure collapsed on her during the event.
