7-year-old boy killed in Dahi Handi celebrations in Mumbai; 32 injured

On Saturday afternoon, a tragic accident occurred during Dahi Handi celebrations in Mumbai, resulting in the death of a seven-year-old boy and injuries to 32 individuals. The festivities took place as part of Janmashtami celebrations at Malad Malvani's Ekta Welfare Society. The incident involved children forming human pyramids to lift a pot filled with dahi (curd) atop their heads.

A single-story brick column supporting the Dahi Handi structure collapsed under the weight, striking seven-year-old Rudra Kadam in the head. Rudra was rushed to Malvani General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At least 32 Govindas, participants in the Dahi Handi celebrations, sustained injuries across Mumbai, with four of them receiving treatment in city hospitals' emergency rooms. The remaining injured individuals were discharged following their treatment. The tragic event occurred around 3:01 pm, and emergency rooms were bustling as the injured sought medical attention.
