Greenwood, Guendouzi handed bans after Fenerbahce-Lyon brawl

Mason Greenwood and Matteo Guendouzi, players from Fenerbahce, have been banned following a brawl that erupted after their club's Champions League play-off second leg against Lyon. The Turkish team had secured a 2-1 victory in France, progressing 3-2 on aggregate. The incident occurred after the final whistle, as players and coaching staff from both sides were involved in a heated confrontation.

Guendouzi, a former Arsenal midfielder, has been suspended for a total of four UEFA club competition matches due to his actions during the brawl. These actions include insulting others present at the match, provoking spectators, and violating basic rules of decent conduct. The suspension periods are subject to a one-year probationary period, according to UEFA. Additionally, Guendouzi has been fined 50,000 euros ($58,000) for his behavior.

Greenwood, also an English player formerly of Manchester United, faced a one-match suspended ban and a fine of 30,000 euros for "violating the basic rules of decent conduct." Both players' actions led to the UEFA's decision to impose these punishments, emphasizing the league's commitment to maintaining decorum and respect within the sport.
