Gov Kefas constitutes new task force to tackle illegal mining

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has approved the formation of a new task force to combat illegal mining and forest degradation in the state. The task force, consisting of eight members, will be headed by Major A.M. Ghali and report to the Secretary to the State Government. Its mandate is to enforce compliance with government directives against illegal mining and to address the destruction of forests.

The task force will operate with support from personnel drawn from key security agencies. Governor Kefas also directed the dissolution of all existing committees or task forces performing similar functions, giving the newly established team full responsibility for the issue. The team is expected to collaborate with the Mobile Court and provide regular updates through the Secretary's office.

Despite recent efforts, illegal mining activities persist in some areas, with mobile courts having previously sealed illegal mining sites in various local government areas.
