PAS Perak seru Adun Umno-BN undi calon senator PN

PAS Perak has urged Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) members to support a Perikatan Nasional (PN) senator candidate in the upcoming Perak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) election, signaling a potential start to political cooperation between the two parties. Berhanudin Ahmad, a PAS Perak representative, believes that the senator election could serve as a foundation for rebuilding relations between PAS and Umno in the state.

"Hopefully, during next week's DUN Perak session, there will be an agenda for selecting a senator. Two candidates will be presented, one from Pakatan Harapan (PH) from PKR and one from PN." Berhanudin emphasized that it would not be problematic for Umno and BN members to vote for a PN candidate in the senator election, aiming to open the path to reconciliation in Perak.

He expressed PAS Perak's willingness to open dialogue with Umno and BN for the state's political well-being and the unity agenda. PAS Perak's unity is not merely about cooperation between parties, but it should begin with unity within the party and respect for leadership institutions. The root cause of PAS's strained relationship with PN's component parties, according to Berhanudin, is the lack of mutual understanding, trust, and harmony among the parties.

PN, as a coalition of parties that support and help each other, should strengthen these aspects among the parties. He reiterated that the key message is to give confidence to the people that PN genuinely carries the agenda of unity and harmony, and is capable of being an alternative to the existing government. Berhanudin also highlighted the importance of Malay-Islam interests without denying the interests of other communities.

He quoted Aristotle's philosophical view on the proper governance of life, which should be directed towards the common good or the benefit of the community as a whole, rather than individual or specific group interests. "This is the kind of cooperation that PAS advocates, providing benefits to society in general. Unity does not mean everyone should have the same views, but they should be open to discussion, compromise, and finding common ground to benefit the collective good."
