Choose PM candidate from Terengganu, says PAS delegate

A delegate representing the Islamic party PAS at the party's general assembly in Kota Bharu has suggested that the party's candidate for Prime Minister should come from the state of Terengganu. Wan Mat Sulaiman, a Terengganu PAS delegate, pointed out that Terengganu had been ranked the best state in Malaysia for budget management transparency by the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS).

This ranking came despite Terengganu facing financial challenges due to the government's refusal to pay petroleum royalties. The party has been governing Terengganu for nearly two terms, under the leadership of Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who attracted record investments worth RM7.58 billion in 2025. Terengganu was also recognized as Malaysia's happiest state in 2024, according to Wan Mat, which he attributed to the state government's success in achieving its goal of creating a "progressive, blessed and prosperous" state.

Wan Mat argued that PAS's experience in governing Terengganu, along with its successes in other states like Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis, would provide voters with assurance about the party's ability to govern the entire country if given the opportunity.
