Trump vows to hit campaign trail hard for Republicans in tight midterms

US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he plans to campaign intensively for Republican candidates in the upcoming November midterm elections, promising extensive travel to crucial states. At a White House dinner for congressional Republicans, Trump highlighted his track record of supporting the party and pledged a packed schedule of appearances in the final month, mirroring his own relentless 2024 campaign.

"I will be with you 100% all the way to November," Trump assured the crowd, which comprised Republican lawmakers including Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Tom Barrett, representing competitive districts. Trump specifically mentioned a focus on 35 races, urging Republicans to secure victories in all of them. The president's approval ratings are low, with only 33% of Americans approving of his handling of the Iran war and persistent inflation, a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on August 31 revealed.

This is the lowest rating of his political career and marks the third consecutive month at that level. The Iran conflict has disrupted global oil supplies, causing US energy prices to rise and exacerbating a nationwide cost-of-living crisis. The war has been ongoing for seven months without any signs of a diplomatic resolution, leading to concerns of a full-scale conflict.

In recent weeks, Trump traveled to Texas, where he headlined a fundraiser for state Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is seeking the US Senate seat. He also campaigned in South Carolina for Darline Graham, who secured the Republican nomination in the US Senate primary runoff and will face the late Senator Lindsey Graham's seat in November.

Trump indicated that he will make numerous stops during his campaign, including Alaska to support incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan and several gubernatorial races. He emphasized that his primary focus is on securing Senate and House seats. The president is scheduled to address both nights of the Republican Party's unconventional midterm convention next week, a decision attributed to concerns about the Republican National Committee's capacity to engage members and activists at the event.
