Trump vows to hit campaign trail hard for Republicans in tight midterms

US President Donald Trump pledged to campaign intensively for Republican candidates in November's midterm elections, stating he has arranged extensive travel to states with crucial contests. At a White House dinner for congressional Republicans, Trump highlighted his past success in campaigning for the party and promised a busy schedule of appearances in the final month, reminiscent of his own 2024 campaign.

He vowed to stand by Republican lawmakers, particularly in 35 closely contested races, in order to secure their election. Trump's approval ratings have plummeted to a mere 33%, the lowest of his political career, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on August 31, reflecting concerns over his handling of the Iran war and persistent inflation.

This decline has alarmed Republicans, who are striving to maintain their slim congressional majority in the November 3 vote. The conflict in Iran has escalated, with repeated missile exchanges between Washington and Tehran, raising fears of a full-scale war. Despite the turbulence, Trump has been actively campaigning, visiting Texas to support state Attorney General Ken Paxton's Senate bid and South Carolina for Darlene Graham's primary runoff victory.

He also announced plans to campaign in Alaska on behalf of Senator Dan Sullivan and several gubernatorial candidates. Trump is scheduled to address both nights of the Republican Party's special midterm convention, a move attributed to worries about the RNC's ability to draw members and activists to the event.
