The longest-serving Deputy Prime Minister, Azalina Othman Said, has announced that the legislation for limiting the Prime Minister's term has been prepared for the second reading vote in Parliament. However, the final decision on whether to bring it up during the upcoming parliamentary session depends on the Speaker of the House, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

According to Azalina, the legislation, which pertains to the Constitutional framework, requires the support of a two-thirds majority of Parliament members. The same applies to the proposed separation of the Attorney General's and Prosecutor General's roles, which also need the approval of a two-thirds majority. She emphasized that these matters fall under the domain of the country's constitutional framework, and thus, a significant majority is necessary for their passage.

Azalina appealed to all Members of Parliament, irrespective of their political affiliations, to support these legislative proposals. She believes that these changes will benefit the nation more than they might be perceived to harm, as they aim to reduce perceptions of political agendas influencing judicial decisions. "I strongly urge all Members of Parliament, Members of the Parliament of Malaysia and any political party to endorse this legislation because it brings more benefits than drawbacks. It's for our nation," she stated.

Furthermore, Azalina mentioned that the separation of roles for the Attorney General and Prosecutor General is expected to enhance confidence in the national judicial system. "I don't want to hear people say that when charged with a crime, some say the evidence is like a pebble and others say it's like a boulder," she remarked. "So, insha-Allah, this separation of roles will provide more confidence, especially when a Prosecutor General is appointed during the parliamentary process."
