‘Stop using my name as a lifebuoy’ – Sinare warns Chairman Buga

Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare, has firmly denied allegations made by NPP National Vice Chairman Alhaji Osman Masawudu, commonly known as Chairman Buga, that he interfered to prevent Sinare from criticizing then-NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 general election campaign. In a statement, Sinare dismissed the claim as "revisionist history" aimed at reviving what he described as a "sinking campaign" ahead of the NPP's internal elections.

Chairman Buga, who is seeking re-election, reportedly made the claim in a viral video, stating that he had stopped Sinare from accusing Bawumia of being anti-Muslim and consuming pork and local alcohol. Sinare, however, categorically rejected the assertion, insisting that Buga had neither the authority nor influence to regulate his political commentary. He emphasized that he did not seek Buga's permission to campaign and did not encounter any obstacles from him during the 2024 campaign.

Sinare further elaborated on his activities during the campaign, stating that as Chairman of the NDC Zongo Caucus, he traveled across the country, engaging with community elders and youth, mobilizing grassroots support for President John Dramani Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates. He dismissed Buga's claim as a "ludicrous revisionist narrative" designed to boost Buga's political relevance.

Sinare argued that attempts to rehabilitate Bawumia's political image through such claims would fail, citing Bawumia's economic record, broken promises, concerns over Hajj fares, and his broader political stance as factors that had damaged his standing.

The Ambassador also advised Buga to focus on his own political record rather than using Sinare's name in his re-election campaign. He urged Buga to answer to NPP delegates for his actions and warned him that he would respond with facts and history should Buga continue to involve him in his political calculations. Sinare closed by cautioning Buga that if he persists in dragging his name into political matters, he would respond with "facts, history, and the full force of my voice."
