Netanyahu says toppling Iran’s Islamic republic ‘within reach’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed confidence that Iran's Islamic republic could soon fall, stating it was currently weaker than ever and fighting for its survival. At an event with military leaders, Netanyahu said, "This regime is currently teetering. It is weaker than ever. It is fighting for its survival," adding, "I am convinced that we can remove this threat once and for all -- that is, to overthrow this regime.

That is the central task that still lies ahead of us, but it is close. It is not impossible. It is within reach."

Netanyahu, who has described Iran's cleric-run state as an existential threat for decades, launched a joint attack with the United States in late February. However, President Donald Trump later called for a ceasefire in April. The US has since imposed more economic pressure and resumed strikes, which led Iran to retaliate against US allies in the Gulf, Jordan, and Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, but not Israel.

Netanyahu attributed Iran's restraint to awareness of Israel's military strength and determination, saying, "They know our power -- the strength of our arms -- and our determination." These remarks come ahead of Israel's general elections on October 27, in which some polls indicate Netanyahu trailing behind other candidates. Opposition leaders have accused him of failing to address the Iran issue.
