Netanyahu says overthrow of Iran’s government is ‘within reach’

Netanyahu, who has long viewed Iran's theocracy as an existential threat, initiated a joint military operation with the United States in February, though the Trump administration called off the campaign in April.

The US has since intensified economic sanctions and resumed airstrikes, prompting Iran to retaliate against US allies in the Gulf, Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, although Israel remained untouched. Netanyahu attributed their selective targeting to Iran's awareness of Israel's military might and resolve. As the October 27 general elections loom, some polls indicate Netanyahu trailing, with opposition parties alleging his failure to address the Iran issue.
