Netanyahu says toppling Iran’s Islamic republic ‘within reach’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Thursday that overthrowing Iran’s Islamic republic may soon become a reality, stating that Tehran is weaker than ever and fighting for its survival. Speaking at a meeting with Israeli military leaders, Netanyahu expressed his conviction that removing this threat is the central task at hand, adding that it is not only possible but also within reach.

The Israeli leader, who has long portrayed Iran as an existential danger, initiated a joint military operation with the United States in February, though President Donald Trump halted hostilities in April. Recently, the US has intensified economic sanctions and resumed strikes. Iran has retaliated against US allies in the Gulf, Jordan, and Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, but has refrained from targeting Israel.

Netanyahu attributed Iran's restraint to their awareness of Israel's military strength and resolve. The prime minister's comments come as he faces a general election on October 27, where polls suggest he may trail behind, and opposition parties criticize him for not achieving progress on Iran.
