GPRTU, GRTCC submit request for review of public transport fares

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have formally asked the Ministry of Transport to examine and potentially revise public transport fares, according to a joint statement released on September 3, 2026.

The request aligns with the established Administrative Instrument for reviewing public transport fares, as outlined by the GPRTU and GRTCC. The duo explained that this process is part of a consultative framework designed to assess and adjust fares, taking into account the diverse costs involved in the operation of commercial road transport services.

Both organizations have indicated that formal discussions with the Ministry of Transport are anticipated to begin shortly. Once the consultations conclude, the outcome will be communicated to the public, as per the joint statement.

The GPRTU and GRTCC have appealed for composure from drivers, station masters, transport owners, and the wider public, urging everyone to await the outcomes of the ongoing process. They emphasized that any future adjustments to public transport fares will be announced following the necessary consultations with the Ministry of Transport.
