It is scandalising for Chief Justice to tour, commend state institutions – Alhassan Tampuli

Gushegu MP Alhassan Tampuli has vehemently criticized Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for venturing into Ghana's political sphere by praising state institutions, which he deems "very, very scandalising". The Chief Justice, as the head of the Judiciary, should refrain from making comments that may suggest alignment with a particular political faction, Tampuli argues.

His remarks came after the Chief Justice's visit to the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) on September 2, where he commended the performance of MIIF and other public institutions. Tampuli questioned the implications of such comments for the Judiciary, particularly given that disputes involving politicians could eventually be brought before the courts.

He also took issue with the Chief Justice's reference to the past eight years, arguing that Ghana's history extends far beyond that period and that the Chief Justice should not rely solely on that timeframe. Tampuli believes that the Chief Justice's remarks could lead the public to perceive him as taking sides in Ghana's political affairs, undermining the Judiciary's neutrality.

He urges Ghanaians to condemn what he calls the Chief Justice's inappropriate intrusion into the political arena and stresses that the Judiciary must maintain its independence and avoid conduct or statements that could erode public confidence in its impartiality.
