‘Ghana became Ghana only eight years ago?’ – Tampuli challenges Chief Justice

Gushegu Member of Parliament Alhassan Tampuli has taken issue with Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie's comment about the performance of state institutions over the past eight years. Tampuli questioned whether Ghana only became a country eight years ago, suggesting the Chief Justice was focusing only on recent events. The MP argued the Chief Justice's remarks risked indicating he had sided with the current administration.

Tampuli contended the comparison of state institutions under the current and previous governments was inappropriate, as it ignores significant achievements from previous decades. The Chief Justice's comments, made during a visit to the Minerals Income Investment Fund, praised current administration projects and questioned what Ghana was doing in the past eight years.

Tampuli warned the remarks could create the impression of him taking a political stance, given the Judiciary's role in mediating political disputes. He urged the Chief Justice to exercise greater caution, emphasizing the constitutional duty for judicial neutrality, especially when political matters may end up before the courts.
