Woman injured by falling concrete from heritage building

GEORGE TOWN - A woman in her 20s was injured when concrete debris fell from a heritage building in Lebuh China during the Hungry Ghost Festival. The fall occurred after a connecting cable attached to the building's wall became dislodged, causing part of the structure to detach and crash onto the woman. She sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The Penang Island City Council was on-site clearing debris and setting up safety tape. A nearby trader, who did not want to be named, recounted the incident, stating that he was serving customers when the loud noise of the falling debris occurred. Upon hearing the noise, he later discovered the woman was struck by the falling concrete and taken away in an ambulance.

Earlier this month, another similar incident occurred at a heritage building along Lebuh Armenian, where rocks and timber fell from a first-floor beam, injuring two Sri Lankan tourists. The weakened timber beam was discovered to have been damaged by a termite infestation prior to its collapse.
