Woman injured as concrete debris falls from George Town heritage building

A woman sustained injuries when concrete debris fell from a heritage building during the Hungry Ghost Festival celebrations in George Town, Malaysia. The incident took place around 11:30 PM on Lebuh China, as members of the public were gathering for the festivities. A loose cable connected to the building's wall is believed to have caused a section of the structure to detach and the resulting debris struck the woman, who was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) was seen clearing debris from the scene and marking off the location with safety tape. The event has reignited concerns over the safety of aging structures in George Town's heritage enclave, particularly those located near areas with heavy pedestrian traffic during major cultural celebrations.

This is the second such incident in less than a month, following a collapse on August 4 involving rocks and timber from a heritage building along Lebuh Armenian, which injured two tourists.
