Tiger Woods driver’s license suspended for five years after crash

Tiger Woods' driver's license has been suspended for five years following a plea agreement in a Florida car crash case. The professional golfer initially faced charges of driving under the influence (DUI) with property damage and refusing to take a lawful test, but these were dropped in favor of lesser charges of careless and reckless driving. The incident occurred on March 27 near Woods' Jupiter Island home when his SUV crashed after attempting to pass another vehicle on a residential road.

Woods, who has dealt with multiple back surgeries and severe leg injuries from a 2021 California car accident, was found to be under the influence of hydrocodone pills but not alcohol. Despite not consuming alcohol, authorities determined he appeared impaired. He refused a urinalysis and was subsequently jailed before posting bond.

Accompanied by his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., Woods appeared in court where Judge Darren Steele sentenced him to the five-year license suspension. The judge made it clear that any driving would result in immediate arrest.

In a statement from the White House, President Donald Trump described Woods as a "great guy" and believed the resolution of the case was "very fair." Trump suggested Woods should have someone drive him instead of being restricted from operating a vehicle. Since the crash, Woods has sought treatment abroad, reportedly in Switzerland, and made a public appearance at the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship in June to introduce Brian Rolapp, the tour's Chief Executive, who announced a new two-tier competition structure for 2028. Woods last played in an official PGA Tour event in July 2024.
