Tiger Woods driver's license suspended for five years after crash

Tiger Woods has had his driver's license suspended for five years following a plea deal in a car crash case that occurred in March near his Jupiter Island home in Florida. The judge, Darren Steele, stated that if Woods were to drive at any point, he would immediately return to jail. Initially, Woods faced driving under the influence (DUI) charges, but these were reduced in a plea agreement where he pleaded no contest to careless and reckless driving.

Woods, a 15-time major champion, could have faced jail time if convicted of the DUI charge. The accident happened on March 27 when his SUV struck a truck hauling a trailer and flipped on its side while attempting to pass on a residential road. Although Woods was not under the influence of alcohol, he did appear impaired. He had two pills containing the opioid hydrocodone in his possession and refused to take a urinalysis.

Woods was accompanied to the court hearing by his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump. President Trump called the resolution of the case "very fair" and stated that Woods would need someone else to drive him. Since the crash, Woods has sought treatment abroad, reportedly in Switzerland, and made his first public appearance since the arrest at the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship in June.
