Saudi Arabia accuses Iran of attacking Saudi tanker in Strait of Hormuz

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia vehemently condemned Iran for the targeted attack on the Saudi tanker SIDR as it navigated through the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the tragic loss of two crew members' lives. The Kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly rejected the Iranian aggression, vowing to stand in solidarity with the neighboring nations of Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait, who were also victims of Iranian attacks.

In a stern statement, Saudi Arabia emphasized the urgent need to prevent further escalation and called for respect for the security and safety of international navigation, global energy supplies, and principles of good neighborliness, state sovereignty, the UN Charter, and international law. The Kingdom urged all parties to exercise restraint, cease the escalation, adhere to international law, and resume negotiations for peaceful resolutions.

Bahri, a Saudi shipping company, confirmed the unfortunate demise of two Filipino seafarers who perished while working on the SIDR during the incident that occurred around 11:40 p.m. local time on August 31. Bahri expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its crew members and extended heartfelt condolences to their families and colleagues.

The company assured that it was providing full support to those affected and maintaining constant communication with the vessel, cooperating closely with relevant authorities and maritime stakeholders while monitoring the situation closely.
