Two dead after Aug 31 attack on Saudi oil tanker in Hormuz

Two Filipino sailors were killed when a Saudi oil tanker was struck in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Saudi Arabia's national shipping company. The attack occurred on Monday, and the Greek security firm earlier reported unknown projectiles hit the ship. The incident happened as tensions between the US and Iran escalated, with both sides engaging in a cycle of attacks.

Bahri, the shipping company, confirmed the loss of its two Filipino seafarers while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night. The previous week, two oil tankers loaded with two million barrels of crude at Juaymah in Saudi Arabia's east coast were targeted. Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed the tankers caught fire after striking mines while traversing the strait.

The US has intensified its attacks on Iran this week, with Tehran retaliating against US assets in the Gulf, primarily targeting American properties. Iran seeks to impose service fees and has targeted ships it believes are attempting to bypass its preferred route through the waterway. Attacks on commercial vessels in the strait have contributed to the breakdown of a ceasefire between the US and Iran in April.
